There be N ving/p.p.

表示「存在」的句型，由形容詞子句省略而來，be動詞的單複數要視後面的名詞片語決定，Ving(現在分詞)，表原句為「主動語態」動詞轉換而來。若為p.p.(過去分詞)，則表示「被動語態」。

There is a girl at the door. 有一位女孩在門邊

The girl is standing at the door. 那位女孩正站在門邊

將兩句合併則為→There is a girl who is standing at the door.有一位女孩正站在門邊

→who is 可以省略→There is a girl standing at the door.

There was an old lady. The old lady was walking down the street.

There was an old lady who was walking down the street.

→There was an old lady walking down the street.

There were twenty passengers. Those passengers were injured in the car accident.
