cannot               be   too  adj.

can never    +    be  adj  enough…

can hardly          overpraise 過獎

                           overestimate 高估
                           overemphasize 過於強調
                           exaggerate 誇大

                           V too much

上面句型中can後面接任何否定字眼的not /never/hardly/ scarcely等，都能形成否定意思的強調句句型，can’t後面則視要修飾的句型為形容詞、名詞或是動詞而定。

形容詞句型則搭配be too adj.或是 be adj. enough 或be sufficient

You cannot be too careful when you cross the street.

You can’t be careful enough when you cross the street.

(過馬路時再怎麼小心也不為過→過馬路時你應越小心越好)

搭配名詞的為overemphasize the N of

We cannot overemphasize the importance of being on time.

We can’t emphasize the importance of being punctual too much.

can’t be p.p. too much 

The importance of being punctual can’t be emphasized too much/overemphasized.

守時的重要性再怎麼強調也不為過。

搭配動詞的為VR too much

I can’t love her too much.(我不能再愛她更多→我再怎麼愛她也不為過→非常愛她)

I can hardly thank my mother too much.(我再怎麼感謝我母親也不為過→我應該越感謝我母親越好)
